In spite of being controversial, the book has really good ratings (good reads- 4.2, amazon-4.2, Google-books- 4.1), hence we can safely deduce that majority of the readers hold the book on good terms.Įven I never thought of it as polemic back then, perhaps I have skipped the chapters or simply because I had not read the original publication. The presence of two controversial scenes with one having sexual abuse and other having beatings with a riding crop scene led to the publication of a revised edition in 1999, inspite of the blockbuster fame. ![]() It seems that very few people held an ambivalent opinion on it. The book is considered controversial with the majority of the readers polarised. When I’d read the book back in High School I felt that the saga of an overbearing aristocrat falling for an unconventional beauty was the mostīut recently while I re-reading it, I went through the reviews and was shocked to the core that I had chosen this book because I had a very unusual feeling while reading it. Judith McNaught published her now iconic regency novel ‘Whitney, My Love’ in 1985. ![]()
